Expect the unexpected in this Grimm fairytale mashup brilliantly crafted by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. In the woods we find the Baker and his Wife trying to reverse a witch’s curse so they can have what they wish for most in life: a child. But they’re not alone in the woods and soon cross paths with Cinderella, Little Red Ridinghood, Rapunzel, Jack (of beanstalk fame) and two hapless princes all searching for their own “happily ever after.” In this sometimes haunting but always magical musical, we’re reminded to “be careful what we wish for” because we might not get what we expect, and to be careful what we say because “Children Will Listen.” But in the end and best of all, we’re reminded that “No One is Alone.”
